  B.Sc. (Hons.) in Hotel and Restaurant Management - 4 Year Full Time

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) was established in 2000 within the aegis of IIMT as the first school of the institute. SHTM has been established in academic partnership with the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management (SHRM), Oxford Brookes University.

Objective

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management in India has been founded with an aim to groom and produce quality trained human resource for the Hospitality and Service Industry keeping a global perspective. The focus of SHTM and its programs is to produce not only technically qualified resource but also individuals who have completely imbibed the managerial aspects and conceptually understood the dynamics of the Hospitality Services and Tourism industry from a business point of view.

In its short existence, SHTM has achieved certain important milestones like-

  • Ranked amongst the premier hotel management institutions of India by the Education Times - Times of India, 15th January 2001.
  • 100 percent students of the 2005 – 2006 cohort placed abroad for one year paid international internship.
 
  Eligibility
  • Successfully completed Year 12 of the Indian School System with an aggregate score of at least 50% (in best 4 subjects) in either the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) or ISCE (Indian School Certificate) or equivalent.

Or

  • Successfully completed a qualification that has been proposed by the IIMT Committee for Credit Rating, and approved by the Business School for admission with credit into the Programmes.

 
 

  And

  • Successfully passed the English language placement test at his/her interview with IIMT.

  • Met any specific requirements for each Programme.

Course Details

Our hospitality and tourism management degree programme is designed to develop effective and innovative managers for the international hotel and restaurant industry of tomorrow. This programme offers flexibility and choice to individual students and at the same time ensures a vocationally relevant and academically rigorous programme of study. It provides the technical and managerial skills and knowledge necessary to secure appropriate employment on graduation. The terminal qualification is a BSc Honors Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Oxford Brookes University. As a graduate from this programme you will have developed a range of skills, knowledge and understanding enabling you to:

  1. Recognize and value the centrality of the hospitality consumer and meet their needs.
  2. Analyze and evaluate the influences on the hospitality business environment.
  3. Apply and review the principles of hospitality operations management.
  4. Identify and evaluate information for decision making.
  5. Apply and review the principles of human resource management.
  6. Recognize and value cultural diversity in both work and customer groups.
  7. Apply the principles of management accounting.
  8. Interpret the marketing concepts and create marketing plans.
  9. Apply management theory to work in the hospitality industry.

Having successfully completed the programme from our hotel management college in India, you will have developed the type of personal skills that are vital for success in industry . You will be encouraged to build a personal profile of achievement by selecting your own particular programme of study. In addition to compulsory modules your programme could involve a focus on a specific aspects of business such as finance, human resource management, marketing or operations. Students who successfully complete the hotel management programme will have an internationally recognized undergraduate degree, which makes them eligible for admission to postgraduate programmes in countries such as the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.

Lectures

Lectures provide the necessary theoretical framework and concepts and students will be expected to undertake prescribed reading on the topic areas well in advance.

Workshops & Seminars

Workshops and seminars are used as an effective means of demonstrating knowledge and understanding in a specific subject area. Students having undertaken independent or group research will have the opportunity to present and discuss their findings within a controlled environment.
